I’m very excited about this new group, Cahaba Christian Writers Fellowship or CCWF. A good friend of mine, June Mathews, who has established herself as a energetic writing genius here in Trussville, decided to undertake the grand task of collaborating with me, not so much a writing genius, in forming a support group for the novice writer.
Moving into a new area was difficult. As a writer I had to make new connections, find new venues opened to freelancers, then prove myself. June was indispensable in her encouragment. She gave of her time to befriend and help me get back on the proverbial writing horse.
That is our goal in creating CCWF. We know how lonely, difficult, and overwhelming the writing world can seem. Our mission is to offer a place of education, support, and a kick in the kaboose in the right direction.
Do you wish you had a group of writing-friendly folks to talk and share with. Well, it only takes one person with that vision, time in prayer for wisdom, and putting feet to faith.
You don’t think you’re qualified, join the club. I can honestly tell you, I’ve never, not once, felt qualified for any job; writing, mothering, marriage, moving 23 times and especially beginning a group to help other writers. In fact I’ve asked the Lord on several occasions, “God, do you really think I’m the one to do this? God, are you sure? God, I really think you should tell someone that’s smarter than me to do this. God, if you want me to do this, I’m gonna have to depend solely on you to lead me, I feel like I am walking on water, blindfolded.”

Many times God has spoken to my heart to take a risk. It’s scary. I don’t like it. I hated being uncomfortable, out of my league. But I must say, looking back now, I would have missed out on so many blessings had I not taken the risk.
Good news! If you feel that God is speaking to your heart to move in a direction that you feel totally inadequet for, get ready for an adventure of a lifetime. God’s power can’t show up in anything that we can do on our own and feel comfortably suited for. That’s why He picks out the weak to fulfill mighty callings. Do I consider myself weak? You betcha, but I’ve learned from previous risk-taking that God shows up stronger in my weaknesses.
To find out more about starting a writing group, do a google search, ask a friend or two, and pray, pray, pray. If you’re in the Trussville area, check out our facebook page Cahaba Christian Writers Fellowship
Happy trails…ummm, writing, I mean. I still have that mental imagine of trying to get on a writing horse… whatever that is.
Blessings,
Cindy
