Here are a few tips to get you started.
Finding Fulfillment in the Writing World can be intimidating. As a writer, there are so many avenues. It’s taken me a little over ten years of consistently working in the different fields of writing to gain confidence in doing what I like, while still bringing in a paycheck.
I’ve learned to turn away jobs that I know will be frustrating and overwhelming and wait for those that fit my personality and skills. It’s hard passing up work, especially in a time and age where the publishing field can be up or down in any given day.
Success looks like different things to different people. You need to ask yourself, “What will success in writing look like to me?” Set a goal and decide what you enjoy best about writing.
How to Find Success
Decide what your passion is. Much of what you write about will and should center around a common theme. To find your theme, you need to ask yourself what’s important to you, what are you passionate about?
Start writing. Once you decide what you want to write about, start. It doesn’t have to be perfect. It took me years of practice and I’m still practicing. But to be a writer, you have to write.
Educate yourself. You’ll never know all there is to the craft of writing. Continue your education, whether it’s in school, through webinars, books or following a few good writing blogs, don’t stop learning.
Be diligent. It took a long time before I was getting paid for writing. It took even longer to feel confident and seriously consider myself a professional writer. Don’t let anyone steal your dream and don’t give up.
